Some Thoughts

Hi all...
I'm in Colossians 2. At the end of vs. 1 in the Message Bible it says, "You're not in this alone." Those early churches had it really hard a lot of the times. It can be really hard at times for us! I also thought about those folks in the mid-east who are going through terrible things. Those words, "You're not in this alone" went deep for me.

How is your "hearing God through meditative Bible reading" going?

Key: take it slow, relax, use the written words as jumping off places for conversation with Trinity.

Preparing for Sunday

I may be over communicating, but I figure I'll let you make that call. I want you to have all the stuff you need to have a meaningful and successful 3 months of "hearing God, through meditative Bible reading."
This is the youtube sermon from a couple Sundays ago when I specifically discussed some "how to" concerning meditative Bible reading. (This is also on the Facebook pages)

The March 15 document is the outline of what we will be ready to answer your questions as we "kick off" the project.

The Colossians document are some notes from 3 different writers discussing the economical, historical, and spiritual background of the book of Colossians. I hope it will help you.

If you're confused

Hi all…In the next couple days I will send you a video of the teaching I did on March 1st talking about how to do Meditative Bible Reading with the goal of hearing God.

I realize that if you have never done anything like this it may seem confusing without an outline or schedule, etc.  So here are a couple ideas to get you started.

Try reading only 1-2 verses. Then re-read it (out loud if possible) 2-3 more times looking for (alert to) a sentence or phrase that catches your interest. If something catches your interest, stop, chew on it, talk to God about it. Then enjoy a few seconds of simply relaxing. If nothing catches your interest, that's perfectly fine! Enjoy a few seconds of holy leisure, and then go be the Child of God in your world.

Try reading a whole paragraph. As you re-read it (aloud) 2-3 times…(do as stated in the first idea).

Try reading a whole chapter. Take several days re-reading the chapter in different Bible versions. Jot down any phrases/words that catch your interest. Compare those with the other Bible versions you used…and even more (if using the internet:  www.biblegateway.com

As much as possible…take your time, converse with God, rest for a few seconds (or minutes!), and then go do that thing you do.
